Learning About the Sun's Harmful Rays
Besides visible light, the sun emits several different types
of radiation. Ultraviolet light A (UVA) and Ultraviolet light
B (UVB) are two important types of invisible light rays that
pierce our atmosphere and reach the surface of the earth. Both
are dangerous to your skin, and responsible for tanning. A
third, and potentially even more damaging Ultraviolet light,
UVC, is fortunately screened out by our atmosphere. It has
only recently been suspected that still another kind of invisible
light, infrared radiation (heat radiation), may also contribute
to sun damage.
